Daytime Running Lights
Daytime Running Lights
I have an '03 built for the US market and I would like to add the daytime lights feature that is standard on Canadian models. My dealer cannot find the correct part number(s) for the module and any related parts I would need. Are there any Canuks out there willing to assist with info or a Canadian dealer to contact?

I think you may be out of luck. The instrument cluster needs to be programmed with a Canadian Country Code. I don't think you want that but you can check with your dealer.

Casey

Re:Daytime Running Lights
My option about Daytime Running Lights are.....Being a motorcycle rider this was forced on us many years ago to have our lights on durning the day to make motorcycle riders more visable to the general driving public in a effort to reduce the killing of bike riders because they didnt see him...this idea did help until the vehicle builders started to put daytime lights on cars and trucks...now motorcycle riders are still forced to run with lights on but we have gone back to being invisable to other drivers again...this is only my .02 cents worth but because Ive had drivers just pull out in front of me too many times (invisable to them) it still makes me mad that Iam still forced to have my lights on durning the day along with so many other vehicles....sorry about my rant but its a sore spot with me
Re:Daytime Running Lights
I second Pappyman's post. The daytime running lights issue got hit by the motorcyle enthusiasts. Kind of shoots the theory of having the bikes run lights to stand out when everyone has their lights on! Being an avid rider (dirt and street) I'm not a big fan of daytime running lights.

Thanks for all the input. Although I feel it is a desireable safety feature and one that I am told would lower my insurance premiums, it appears that there is no practical means of adding it (thanks for the info, Casey) and besides, I wouldn't want to p.o. the Hells Angels!

I'm confused with the issue motorcyclists have concerning four wheeled vehicle DRL's. Their use wasn't to give them preferential treatment, right?. It was to make them more visible. So, if it's one light or two lights, does it matter? I now see both vehicles coming much better now than before. Anyhoo, I run my fogs during the day, and feel the increased fuel consumption would be far outweighed by an encounter with another vehicle.

You should see the look of bemusement on Americans faces when they visit one of Canada's cities during rush hour. On our freeways, middle of a summer's day... as far as you can see on the highway, a steady stream of vehicles, ALL with their headlights on. Tourists will say; gee....why does everyone have their lights on?!? lol

i think it's a great idea... BB? you'll need to get ....hmmm, it's a little black modual that usually sits just above the drivers side fenderwell, close to the frame. Costs about a hundred bucks i think. Your dealer should be able to get it.

Unbelievable... :
I swear DC is de-evolving automotive technology. My 1989 Chevy has a magnetic light attached to 15 feet of wire on a little reel....along with the underhood light. I love it. I can hear DC ten years from now, ".....Unfortunately, the electric starter is not available as an accessory for your vehicle." :

Re:Daytime Running Lights
A few years ago I was 100+ miles from nowhere in Nevada and it was turning dark - my headlightr bulb (on because we're from the government and we'er here to help you) finally burned out. There I was, stuck what could have been a million miles from nowhere, with night full on and unable to move -- on a motorcycle, in an area where whild animals such as bobcats and coyotes roam - and unable to move because the Government burned my headlights out during daylight hours -- pardon me, but I'll take my chances the way I used to. Thank GOD for Dodge who lets me take my choice as to when I want to physically turn my lights on and off.
Re:Daytime Running Lights
It seems to me that the solution is simple. If you really want DRL, TURN YOUR HEADLIGHTS ON! The DRL on my previous vehicles has been quite annoying. I even had a car that would turn the headlights on for me when IT thought it was dark enough. I can turn my own headlights on, thank you.
Re:Daytime Running Lights
OK, I have given up on the idea!

However, it was my understanding that "daytime running lights" were actually much dimmer than the normal headlights, so just turning on the switch doesn't cut it! And, I suggest that those of you who run the risk of burning out your headlight 100 miles from nowhere, because of some government mandate, take charge of your own destiny and either disable the day time headlight feature or carry an extra bulb.
