Turn signal // daytime running light conflict?

I was following a guy from work today, he told me when I use my turn signal my daytime running light on that side goes off. I didn't believe him and checked, he's right. If I signal to turn right, the right headlight goes off, same for the left side.
If I turn the headlights to "on" the headlight stays on, is this normal?

Maybe they think turning the headlight off during the day will make the turn signal more visable?
I'm gonna call the dealer just to make sure...

Fisherguy,

And not only does the signal side turn off, the opposite side gets brighter!

I've seen this on a number of newer DC vehicles in this area. The first time I saw this on a 3rd gen, I was going to post about it, but I thought that I was just seeing things. Then, I saw it on a number of other trucks as time progressed. Now, I see it quite often on other newer DC vehicles, and not just the trucks. I believe it's normal. That greater turn signal visibility I believe you've got hit right on the head.

Good thing you posted this......I thought I was working too much for awhile.

Called the service dept at the local dealer, it IS normal.

He thought it was weird when he first saw it too. he says it's in my owners manual but I couldn't find it in there.

I have a 2005 with a late build date, I was even told that if I ordered a day later, would have to get an '06. I asked to have the DTRL's activated also.

I read this thread, and looked at my truck. My DTR's both stay on with my directionals. No differance in brightness, or anything.

Don't know why some people have the same trucks, with same options, but different actions when it comes to these daytime lamps??

I thought there was two different versions or ways to activate DRL's. CDN and US version. Maybe that is the difference? I will have to check my US DRL's later.

When I asked to have mine activated, The dealer told me what they have to do is put in the code for a Canada truck, and thats what activates the DTRL's. I never heard of two different versions?? Maybe thats what all the differences are?

Hmmm, which is better?
Makes sense to me for the DTRL to stay on, but would make the turn signal stand out more if the headlight turns off .. ?

I think I read somewhere a while back that by entering a COUNTRY CODE (CD/CDN) all the legal country requirements are met by default.

I also think I heard/read that there was another way to activate DRL's in the programming menu options...something like DRL OFF/ON toggle in a specific menu. That could account for the differences of how the DRL's were activated. Leaving the a country code set to US and activating the DRL's in a menu toggle, versus changing to CDN country code. Using CDN country code should activate them by default with perhaps the different characteristics of affecting the turn signal headlight off feature? Just a guess. Anyway, I will have to look at mine though to confirm if my DRL headlight stays on when using turn signal.

Otherwise, I must of just had a dream about DRL programming options as I admit I have been spending too much time on my truck lately...

FYI - My DRL's (late 04.5 build) are unaffacted by use of turn signals. They are always on, no flicker unless the grid heaters cycle.

So it seems its either an '06 thing or Country Code Canadian thing...
