dash and gluing back the pieces..
My dash is broken up in lots of brittle pieces and i want to glue it back if possible and lay down a piece of carpet over it i guess.
Does anyone know for sure what type of plastic this is made of? It appears to be ABS.
What type of epoxy or glues have been used successfully?
thanks!

I glued the clip of my A-pillar back on with plumbers abs cement, its the black stuff, and a small slice of abs pipe material. you may be able to get it in a thin sheet and use backing strips to hold you dash pieces in place. Sounds a bit like a waste of time to me though.
Have you looked at the solid plastic dash covers from Geno's?

I'm going to look at plastic welding my chunks back in when I do the heater core. Will then put a hare cover on it. I saw a 97 with the entire top of the dash gone. Poor truck was dirty & nasty. It looked completely ragged out.

My dash hasn't had any pieces fall out yet, but it did have a couple of cracks which were maybe ten and six inches long. I used gorilla glue on the cracks and haven't had any more problems out of them.

My dash is totally cracked up.
Wifey said to talk to the dealer this week and see what they will do about it and use some of the tax refund to pay for it...

I've heard the dealers won't/can't do anything about them. There is apparently no UV protection in abs plastic.
I have used 303 Aerospace protectant on my sutff since new and it still looks good. We don't get intense sun around here though.
Good Luck with the dealer.

I just duct taped my cracks and put a carpeted dash cover on it. Genos has the the carpet covers, the rigid glue on covers as well as a complete replacement.

Dealer will sell you a new dash. Is the refund huge? You might get 1 out of a yard & repair yourself. A solid dash cap is also an option if you have something to glue to.

Just a plain ole guy
Covers will never work when the whole thing crumbles to nothing. There is no glue that will glue it. Go out and bring a chunk inside. Set it on your dresser. Look back in a few days and it'll self destruct. They'll be some oily stuff at the break. A replacement is less the $200 at the dealer and a couple of hours to install it.

I glued my dash back together with ABS plumbing glue and fiberglass mat for reinforcement. I then covered it with a cheap carpet cover from Rockauto.com ,no problems yet. Seems to be holding well.

mechmagcn, any possibility of a photo of your dash with the new RockAuto carpet cover? I think this is the way I will probably go. Everything else seems like such a RIP OFF and a major labor bellyache.
Thanks,
