cruise control help

I have been searching all day and have not found an answer to my question, or im not searching the right way. My 97's cruise control has been working great untill yesterday. The light on the switch no longer comes on and so the system obviously is no longer working. I checked all of the vacuum hoses today and the fuses, now problems there. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Horn works just fine, sorry, I forgot to mention that I checked that. Could it just be the switch on the steering wheel? Im kind of at a loss, and of course dont want to just throw money at it. I appreciate the help guys

You bet.
Take the switch apart and you'll see how cheaply made it is.
Replacement is dealer only and doesn't cost all that much.

I turned the cruise on both my trucks on the day I bought them new and haven't turned them off since.
Maybe the switch will last a long time...

Testing with a multimeter will tell , another possibility could be the brake sw. , they have a bad design , & seem to go out of adjustment .
I had found out mine was bad when I drove home after buying the truck , by hold the brake peddle up with light pressure from my toe , then the cruse would work .
Then the new replacement would not hold the correct adjustment .

Will the brake switch turn off the on light off though?
I don't know, earlier years don't have a light.

Guys, I really appreciate it. I think just to be safe I will replace both since the truck is older and it wouldn't suprise me if both are original. At least it is an easy fix! Again, I thank you for you help.

Guess it's the difference between '95 and '97.
Like I said, no indicator lights on mine either.

Good question and the WD don't show a light.... However since turning the cruise OFF with the SW turns off the lite it also dumps the PCM speed memory for the cruise. So I would suspect it doesn't as there would be no resume feature.
