cracked dash
cracked dash
Anyone replaced the dash cover on these trucks? Do you need to take the whole thing apart or can you remove a few bolts and pull it off?
I want to try something different.. pull the cracked dash, weld the cracks and cover the thing in a layer of carbon fiber or other colored fabric with clear epoxy. Ive found some resins that are 180F and UV resistant that should do the job.

You have to removed a few screws, lower the steering wheel, and some other tweaks. I replaced mine and the new one cracked faster than the old one. I'm just gonna live with it. I think if you replaced it, then didn't put all the screws along the windshield back in, it might give it enough flex to last.

Just finished installing the dash pad replacement from LMC Truck. Fit well and looks pretty good. I waited until the heater and AC cores needed to be replaced and did all of it. Have a problem now with unlock but I have not rechecked wires yet. May be brake switch wires are loose or bad....Always look at the last job done,HA!
I have a dash cap that I will be removing on my '96. Bought a new OEM dash and will leave the screws loose but put silicone around them and then top it with a carpet mat. I used a black carpet mat in my '06 and it reduced glare and made it much much less hot in the sun. If the OEM one breaks I'll probably get one of the aftermarket ones that is guaranteed for life.

Have never seen one guaranteed for life. I am going to go back to LMC and get a set of tabs they sell that go under the screws at the wind screen. Seems to me they would spread the load a bit under the screw heads to delay any stress cracks.
Guaranteed for life was on E-bay. I'll try to find it again and let you know who sells it. I think it was around $340. Since I have my OEM dash waiting to go in I have not been looking at anyhing else lately.
This is deal on ebay, guaranteed for life, but its hard to believe
