Cracked Dash Fix?
Cracked Dash Fix?
I have a crack on the dash on the passenger side of my truck through the part that dips down. That probably was not descriptive at all, but anyway, its not too noticeable if you are in the driver's seat, but in the passenger seat you can see it clear as day, I was noticing on ebay there is a lot of dash "cover" (plastic piece that go over your existing dash attaching with silicone or another substance) anyone had experience with this? or how much is involved with replacing the top part of the dash on a 99 truck? and if you have done this whats your thoughts? thanks!

They have the plastic molded covers in colors so you dont have to paint them.
The online catalog is a pain to navigate, but you will find it. I would also suggest ordering one of their free catalogs. They have a ton of stuff for our trucks.

pretty simple
My wife and I installed one of Geno's $130 jobbies this afternoon in less than 1.5 hours. Good fit, no serious problems except perhaps the small tube of cement that comes with it, but it's just silicone so you probably have some lying around. The black looks fine on the dark grey dash. I'm going to leave it that way and move on to other things.

Go to your local Dodge dealership, I got a replacement dash for my 99 ram for right at $200. It took me about 1 hour to install it. Just have your VIN handy when you call the dealer. That way they can get you one that matches your interior. I think its way better than a cover. You can't even tell mine has been replaced, except that its not all cracked up!!!
Smitty, did the dealership tell you that you needed to replace the front radio bezel when you bought the dash? Cause I already check with the dealership, and they had the dash for $130, but said I also would need to get the bezel too which was around $140. Dunno why though, maybe cause they update it to the 98+ style or changed the mounting holes or something? I dunno...

...yes $1005 dollars for the dash, and that's not installed either!!! So the Genos dashtop is slated to go in this coming weekend.
"The dealership quoted me $1005"
Go to a diffrent dealer. Mine was $169 from the dealer. Took about two days for them to get it shipped in. No shipping charge. Huge box. Took 4 hours to sawp out and that included taking my two sons for ice cream as a rewaed for a job well done.
IMPORTANT==> Make sure you get your vin tag off of the old dash. They are rivited to the plastic. You can re-rivit it to the new dash before installation. There are two dimples where you need to drill the holes. I threw my old dash parts in a dumpster and just happen to glance back and noticed the vin tag. Had to dive in and get it and it's held on with a foam tape. Never had any inspection issues. Keep the receipt showing the replacement dash purchase in the truck. Plus the VIN is stamped in several other places.
The dash covers are only temporary. Once they start cracking, they won't stop till they completely self distruct. I had peices I brought in and they would break apart sitting untouched on the kitchen counter. When I could catch a fresh break, I could see an oily substance on the edges of both peices. It aint Armourall. If it was every part would be breaking apart as they all get it once a month.
Mine also started with a crack on the passengers side. At first it just looked like a long hair laying on the dash. In the end, there was a hole big enough for someone to ride up there.
