Component failure mileage.

I own a 1999 Dodge 2500 Cummins 4 X 4 with 5 speed maual transmission. It has approx. 200,000 miles on it. I am looking for experience of other Cummins owners concerning the anticipated mileage failure point for the following five components:

Starter

Alternator

Water Pump

Front Wheel Bearings

Air Conditioner Compressor

I anticipate having to take many long range trips in this truck in the coming months and am trying to head off problems on the road with needed replacements beforehand.

Thanks for your help.

Don't know about the above parts but do know the VP44 injection pump and the lift pump will go out. The rest is pretty much bullet proof.

Starter: You should replace the starter contacts ASAP. http://www.fostertruck.com/dodge/default.htm See my pics. Easy job.

I would have the front end checked for ball joint replacement.

A fuel pressure guage is a MUST!

Ball joints at 57K

Track bar at 57K

LP at 93K

High pressure power steering line 99K

Starter at 109K

Vp44 at 125K

Hopefully I have covered all the expensive stuff, this truck will hopefully run 350K miles, so I haev many years to keep it on the road.

I'm at 80K. Here's my score card:
Ball joints: original
track bar: original (and minimal play I might add)
front wheel bearings: original
torque convertor: 1st at 26K right after I bought it, 2nd still going.
lift pump: original (still at 13psi plus and never drops below 9)
VP: replaced my first one last week. 80K

Injection pumps go whenever they want. I've seen them go 300K+, I've seen them go in less than 20.
