cetane rating

Does anyone know the normal rating for cetane in diesel fuel?? Do you know of a quality cetane booster.

Unfortunately, unless the minimum number is published on the pump, we actually do not know the quality of fuel we're buying. It could vary from 40 to low 50's. Try asking cashiers or attendants what the cetane rating of their diesel fuel is, and they'll most likely have no clue what it is.<br><br>If the pump says premium or premier diesel, it should have a minimum cetane rating of 48. I usually look for the premium, those that sell it will usually make a point of advertising it, price is usually competitive, so I typically do not use additives.

PowerService Silver bottle available at WalMart claims to raise the Cetane rating 6 points.
