A/C compressor Locked up
My A/C compressor locked up and melted my Serp Belt in half. Will I need to replace the whole compressor or just the clutch? What do I do about the freon in the system, could I cap the system off some how or will it have to be evacuated? I can not get the truck to a shop, I am going to do the repairs in my driveway. Will someone come to the house and evacuate it? Please give me some idea's

If you get a belt for a "NON AC" truck and follow the different routing in the diagram you will be able to drive your truck without changing anything until you can fix it. I'm not sure if the compressor will be in the way but I don't think it will. I always carried a spare NON AC belt just in case the compressor died on the road.

If compressor seized you could have metal particles in the system. Try to turn compressor by hand first. If it has seized you won't be able to turn it by hand. The center of clutch is direct to compressor shaft. If you can turn it you might just need a new clutch asy. (not available through Chrysler complete compressor only). make sure it has seized or if the clutch just seized because of the bearing failure. Orifice tube and dryer will need to be replace along with the compressor and clutch if compressor has seized.. OEM compressors come complete with clutch installed. You should flush a/c system to remove any contaminates if metal particles are found in the compressor oil. The dryer and orifice tube should capture most of the particles. That's why they need to be replaced if metal from compressor got into the system.
