When I'm coming to a stop, my brakes work as normal. Then, when I get below 4mph or so, suddenly the pedal pushes back, like ABS is kicking in, and my brakes are gone!

A hard stomp on the pedal stops the truck.

I'm nearly certain that the ABS is causing this, as my CB radio makes a noise each time this happens; it makes a noise whenever the power windows are operated, for example. So some servo on the ABS is kicking in.

The question is, why? And more importantly, how do I fix it?

Ok, I checked for codes, I've got P1693 and P0234. Pretty sure these codes have been in the truck for years now, from an overboost at some point in the past.

 

It is caused by the abs, Most likely from one of the front wheel sensors being fouled with rust/water corrosion.

 

check your wheel bearings I had a bearing go bad and a small piece of metal got stuck on the sensor and caused that on my 01. After I found the metal I looked at were it came from.

 

mine had the front wheel sensor wire's cut from rubbing on the brake hoses
