Angry 04 Ram cruise control kicking out

04 Ram diesel 2500. mechanics already had me change 2 parts. Parts changers and niether one made it work any differently.

Start vehicle, go down road, set cruise. All of a sudden the cruise just kicks out. Then can not be reset again unless vehicle is shut off then restarted. And sometimes this does not work. Changed brakelight switch, changed servo, checked for vacuum leaks, checked vacuum resivour for leak down for vacuum leak. All seems to check out ok. Now the dealer wants me to change the fuel actuator. At a cost of $200 but they are quessing. No codes show up.

also, it didn't do this before but does now. All of sudden jumps into high idle (racing) while sitting running.

Sounds like either the cruise buttins are going bad or possible even a clockspring. Hold the trip/reset button ( key off) and then turn the key on. Any codes should show up in the odo screen. These are different codes than the ecm codes.

I was having trouble with my APPS. My cruise would do the same as your's. If I reset the APPS, the cruise would come back to life. Not saying you have a bad APPS, just maybe you could try resetting it and see what happens.

did that with the key off. comes up with this....
C-code
67-----------------------49
does anyone know what that means and what to do?

also noticed a high idle as soon as the truck gets up to 200 degrees.and cruise works until the truck is warm. Then it jumps into high idle. but noticed you can stop the fan with your fingers. So I'm guessing that I need a new radiator fan clutch(this is not electronicly operated).

That is for a power door lock problem. First set of numbers is the code, second is the number of key cycles since the code was set. Here's a link to body codes. Still no engine codes? With the engine racing, it could be the FCA. One more thing....do you actually have the vacuum motor on the pass side fender? Do you have the high idle feature where it can be enabled with the cruise buttons? If so... there could be a possibilty that either the cruise button is bad, a problem in the clockspring, or a wiring issue if you have an 04.5 without the vacuum actuated cruise. I know you said that they checked all of those things, but.........

yes, the vacuum motor is on the pass side fender. Don't understand the consept of the high idle feature where it cnz be enabled with the cruise button. what's a clock spring. Yes we have the vacuum acturated cruise.

The clockspring is a wire tape of sorts wound into a coil behind the steering wheel. It allows the electrical buttons and air bag in the steering wheel to work even while the wheel is turning. Not like the old horn contacts, but does the same job. Just 500% more expensive!

Some 04.5 and newer trucks can enable the high idle with the cruise buttons. While in park or neutral, turn on cruise and press resume button several times to idle truck up to desired speed. It does have a max limit, and if it had this option enabled this would all make sense if there was a problem with the cruise buttons or clockspring. Problem is, I haven;t found anyone yet that has vacuum operated cruise that has the high idle with the cruise buttons!

Can't see the FCA kicking the cruise out. I've been wrong before, but I'm betting on steering wheel related wiring or switches.

P0483 Fan Speed
Not real uncommon to get every now and again. Mine seems to come on a little more when I tow, but I don't get real alarmed either way. I watch my guages like a pilot!

A couple of corrections to the above post:

The cruise button controlled high idle feature started in MY '04, not '04.5.
My '04 (November, '03 build date) has vacuum operated cruise and cruise button high idle. Works fine.
I had a problem with my cruise stopping working. Bad vacuum pump. No simultaneous problem with high idle.

That is not that simple or just a blanket statement. From what I can tell, the only engines to have the ability to use the cruise buttons are the trucks without vacuum cruise. I could be wrong, it has happened before!

This same issue is going on in another thread... my 04 (engine build date of Oct 03) has vacuum cruise control and the high idle through the cruise control buttons on the steering wheel is enabled.
