Body Work..

Hey Everyone,
My truck has had some rust for quite some time now, and so I decided to start some body work on it. I have only finished the bottom of the drivers side door(below the plastic strip for when you hit your door against something). I sanded it the paint down a bit, and sanded down/out the rust. I then taped off just the door area for now(was getting too late) and sprayed it with some Black Asphalt Underlining compound. I think this will hold up fairly good(unless I'm wrong) and it doesn't look all that bad. Even if it turns out to be a little uneven I won't mind, it's only on the bottom of the door. I'll soon do the bottom of the cab, and along the front fenders.

Has anyone ever done something like this yourself, or do you get others to rhino line, or something like that?

Here are a couple of pictures I took late last night(sorry for the quality)

I have an 82 chevy I had to do a bunch of rust work on,and thought I got all of the rust by using a wire wheel, than sprayed rust inhibator, than applied spray on bedliner, had it painted by Maco in '01, and the rust still came back. With the rust issue you have, I would cut out the cancer and start fresh.

Yea, where the rust is in "deep", stuff like that...I'm grinding it right out. Most of the spots arn't that big so there are easy fixes. Even if this holds for a little while I'll be happy with it. Then when I have some money I can buy all new fenders, doors, etc

mine were rotted thru on both sides when I got my truck. I just cut out some squares and welded in some new sheet metal. I found that spraying in some rust treatment then using regular paint over it was ok.
Another option is to use fiberglass and resin to do the repair, the advantage being it wont rust.

Yeah, I used Herculiner. I didn't go QUITE so far up, but mine was done over a year ago and still holds up nicely.

Yea I'm using fiber glass and resin in the spots where there is holes, or where I feel it needs it. The places that are too small, etc i'm sanding the rust right out. So far it's been going good, i've done under the cab, and the cab corner as well. I'll get some pictures when i'm home and post them up

Nice looking truck Boiler

Here are a few more pics of what I have done so far. I might round off the one "corner" of the fender a little better and then should be done this side. And I might go over the black with a coat of actual bed liner too after.

Don't bash me too hard, this is my first time doing any kind of body work
