Blower Motor speed switch, where do i get one?

Intermittent issue with blower motor not working, sometimes it won't work at all, then after a couple of miles it starts working. Based on searches here I'm leaning towards the switch in the dash. Question is, where do I get just the switch? O'reilly's and NAPA want $300 plus for a special order cluster that replaces all 3 HVAC controls. Any help would be appreciated.

Unlikely to be the fan switch. If it will work only on high speed it's the resistor block in the heater plenum, if it only works intermittently on ANY speed then it's a dead spot in the armature of the fan motor itself, if it starts working when you rotate the squirrel cage a little it's a dead spot for sure.

Ok, let me run this by you all. At lunch I was playing around with it. I shut the truck off earlier with the fan speed switch on the third position. When I got back in and turned the key on for the "wait to start" sequence, the motor started to turn, then slowly quit. I started the truck and it works fine. I'm going to check the resistor and the motor itself first, because those are cheaper fixes. Any other input?

The Hi speed setting is the only position that has no resistor so if the resistor block has fried from lack of air moving over it the hi speed still works. The lack of air flow over the block can also be caused by bad fan motor bearings that get tighter as they heat up. Tight bearings or dead spot on the armature replace the motor. If you remove the motor and cage it should spin easily by hand, if it's tight replace the motor even if the resistor block is fried as just changing the resistor will cause it to fail again.

its the fan itself...I had the same problem. I changed the control in the dash, resistor under the dash still not working. Then of course its cheapest part that could be changed...the blower fan.

Yep, same problem here, mine works intermittently, I keep my long handled ice scraper on the floor so I can whack the bottom of the HVAC unit when it doesn't start up.

When it is not running, try whacking the bottom of the unit and see if it doesn't start running.

I am getting the last few cents worth out of my old one before I change it........

I have the original control panel out of my 01 if you need one. I replaced it with the one with the heated mirror switch when I added them.

PM me if you need it.

I had the intermittent fan for two years before finally it died completely. I replaced the fan with an aftermarket that was half the physical size but has been working perfectly for the last two years.

It is the fan. I loosened the screws last night and checked it for free rotation and it didn't have it. I've got a fan and resistor waiting at O'Reilly's. Thanks guys for saving me again.
