Bilstein 5100 Install?
I got a full set of KYB Monomax shocks and noticed a couple days ago that the front shocks were topping out when I went over speedbumps. I bit the bullet and ordered Bilstein 5100's for the front that will accomodate the lift. I had the KYB's put on professionally when I got the spacers put in, so I am not familiar with the procedure. There were no instructions, so I'm guessing you just unbolt the shock and the tower, then reverse the process with the new ones.
I'm just not sure how the top bushings go. Do the narrow raised parts go toward each other, or do they fit under the metal caps? Also the KYB's didn't come with a strap around them so do I cut that off at any old time, or is it there for a reason? Lastly, are there known torque specs for all the nuts involved? I know this post reveals my obvious lack of knowledge with regards to these things, but you guys are always there to help. Thanks in advance for the answers.

The plastic retainer strap is for shipping, because they're gas charged and will expand out to full when it's released.
I got the Trailmaster SSVs for the truck. They also accomodate the lift 0-2".

u will need to cut the drivers side in half, i used a 4 1/2 grinder , sawzall blades dont like the hardend steel shock shaft...u will have to unbolt the shock tower and bottom bolt. as for torque u just tighten untill the bushings expand to the diameter of the washer and go no further.the bottm bolt was put on and off by my impact torque is a guess, but i know it will never back out.

Like mini14 said you have to unbolt the tower and then the bottom bolt.I removed the inner fender liner for access. I didn't need to cut anything. Easy install other than compressing the shock while you get a bolt started in the tower.

Thanks guys! Got them in without a hitch. I used a 1/2" breaker bar to tighten the bottom bolt. Hope that's tight enough. I noticed that one of the nuts on the passenger side tower was only about finger tight, so I guess I'll check them periodically. Even though the KYB's are great, I noticed the Bilsteins smoothed the ride out even more. Now on to the next thing!
