Auxillary input to stereo
I have the Infinity premium radio in my truck. To be more specific it has a single disck player, the low-mid-high- equalizer sliders, and a joystick for the speaker fade and balance. Does anyone know if this radio is capable of an auxillary audio input? I have an MP3 player that I would like to tie into the system since the CD player suck at playin burnt CD's.
Well not any really help, just glad to know I'm not the only one with that problem of playing burnt CD's. Just for that reason, I'm putting in an older head unit I have. Also while I was back there I did not notice any aux inputs either. Not unlesss you can do a FM turner style input.
From a discussion on another board I learned it depends on the brand of disc that you burn to whether they will play well in the stock Infinity.
I went though the same thing with the aux inputs last summer as I wanted to use my iPod though the Infinity.
Ended up buying a Sony xPlod 50 watts per channel mP3 player with auxiliaries for $125. Works and looks great, installed in 20 minutes. Now I burn my music onto mP3s and use no cds, having one disc sure beats twelve with the same amount of music.

Mine plays CD-Rs as well.
There are two solutions you can use if you don't want to replace the head unit. You can get a converter that will change the back factory pre-outs to a 3.5mm(headphone) jack. But I think the piece is expensive and you have to bring it out the front somehow.
The other way you lose a little sound quality, you can use a tape deck to 3.5mm jack converter. This is what I have been doing while I decide if I want to do anything else long term. It lets me use my mp3 player and my laptop.
If you try to replace the head unit from the Infinity's the speakers won't work right with an aftermarket unit. Each of the speakers is self powered I think. I tried it and it was a no go for me. You end up have to rip out the entire system.
There are several threads on all of this with more information if you search the archives.

It is possible. I just did the same thing for my 04.5 rbk radio. Check out the following link. They have all kinds of interfaces to go with just about any stock radio to give you an auxillary input. www.pie.net

It uses the factory CD-Changer input on the back of the head to allow two AUX inputs.
I'll be using this method when I start upgrading the stereo. PIE is the other brand.

I considered using the CD-Changer adaptor method but with the price of it almost half way to the price of a new head unit that is better than the Infinity figured why mess with it.
Also tried a FM modulator and a cassette adaptor, both sounded crummy.

I have an FM modulator and it sucks. That is why I am interested in the auxillary input.
Now something is confusing. A CD changer input, how does one switch to that source if you want to listen to that input?
