Automatic rear view mirror

Well Im still googlin at all the gizmos in my newly aquired 95 4x4. Im tryin to figure out the rearview mirror. It has a button that you push to dim it and a light is supposed to come on?? mine does nothin?? any ideas besides tinting the rear window so I dont get blinded by traffic behind me.

You push the button and it should dim the light reflecting in the mirror, are you saying this isn't happening? Mine didn't have an "indicator light". The dimmed light got a green tint to it.

When the indicator light on my '95s are on the mirror does nothing until headlights come up in the rear, then it dims. You can test it even in daylight with a flashlight pointed at the sensor at the bottom of the mirror glass.
I've heard some people comment that their's doesn't work if the rear window is tinted or the they have a canopy shell on.

Have neither a shell or tint, maybe the oncomming lights werent bright enough to make it work. I dont see any illumination of my switch like the manual says, must be smoked??

lights have to be fairly bright and close to dim. Use the flashlight trick, but I think you need to shine it on the little pinhole in the middle of the top of the mirror

I flipped mine upside down (button now on top and sensor on the bottom) and it seems to react a little better to headlights from behind. I leave it on all the time.

I had a mirror like that in my 95, and that's one thing I don't miss about it. For me, and I had a canopy and sliding rear window, it didn't seem to work very good. The split in the window seemed to always cast a shadow over the sensor. I like the manual mirror better.
