Auto dimming rear view mirror

Did Dodge ever offer an auto dimming rear view mirror? if so can it be retrofitted to our trucks?

I have seen aftermarket rear views with compas and temp so I would imagine there is a dimming one out there.

I don't see why you couldn't add a factory self dimming mirror to your truck. The whole unit is self contained (sensors, switch, etc). Hook up power and ground and away you go.

I bought 1 of ebay, factory Dodge extra wide for pickups. The 1 I bought was new with no wiring for about $20.00 and made my own wiring.

There is 3 prongs on the back side to hook up. 1 is a ground, 1 is pos and I think the 3rd is made to turn if off when in reverse.

I just run the hot and ground wires. The ground I hooked in to the over head. Make sure the ground wire is grounded all the time. Dodge likes to use a break ground system. The hot I ran to the fuse box and hooked to a fuse that is hot only with the key on. I also added a plug in behind the over head for the wires in case the windshield needs to be replaced.

Hope this helps,
Rodney

Unless mine doesn't work at all, the factory tint on the windows doesn't seem to let enough light through to affect the mirror. The truck has the dimming mirror.

The auto dim mirrors are easy to check. After dark shine a flashlight into the round dot on the mirror and see if it dims. There is a off and on switch under the bottom that glows green at night when on.

Also the mirrors don't seem to work as well on 4X4's with dark tinted back glasses. The dot that picks up light to tell the mirror to tint is at the top, with the 4X4 setting higher it don't pick up car lights as easy as a 2 wheel drives.

I bought a used '96. The dimming mirror never worked! However, I love the one in my '04.5.

Hope you find a good one at the wreckers.

Cheers f

Then take that 4x4 with tinted back glass and make it 5-7 inches higher (lift and tires),
then put a big cross bed toolbox that blocks half the rear window.

If I can't see the cars until they are a block behind me, that little dot aint gonna see their headlights.
