Is anybody REALLY shooting for 500K miles?

Even though I still don't have the steering to my satisfaction, and only have one or two of the accessories I really want, I plan to drive the truck until I reach a 1/2 million miles. It may not be realistic at 35K-40K miles a year but we shall see.

Hmmm! I just looked at a 98.5 1 ton quad cab, sport ,Auto,Rhino liner, Fith wheel hitch, with leather int, and related options.
Body and under cairage are in good conition for it's age. Asking price $11000. (yep $11000)
Now for the bad.
820000 mi.
I was stuned when he told me.
According to the person selling it there has been no magor engine work done and runs fine.
He said that the owner has a letter from Dodge stateing that they want the motor back at 1000000 mi. (he didnt say if they were giving him a new one) any body ever here of such a thing. I am kinda thiking about buying it, especialy if I know a new(rebuilt?) free motor is in its future. Wada think

I've heard of Dodge trading one million mile trucks for a new one. It's up to individual dealers, they put them on display for ad purposes.

It took me 9 years to get 215k, I'm almost certain that diesel fuel will be a thing of the past by the time I hit 500k.

Shooting for a million here.
Why not? Several trucks have seen it, without anything major done to them. Problem here is not many owners keep their trucks for as long as it takes to get that many miles on them.
If you feel like the truck with 820K was taken care of, buy it, especially if the owner has been running synthetic in it. You might look really closely at the rear and tranny though. They aren't made by Cummins.

Good Lord willing....... And the creek dont rise, I'm hoping to take mine to the grave with me. That would be 35 more years if I live an average life span. What's so crazy about that? I still have my 1968 mustang with 289 that I got when I was 16. It is 36 years old and still on the same engine.

My girlfriends dad has over 600k on his with NO overhauls or serious work... heck the thing still has the stock valve cover gaskets on it. And half of those miles he has been runnin propane .
BTW: the motor has outlasted 3 trucks, 1 dodge, 2 Ferds, and now the current Chebby

I plan on driving mine (heavily bombed) till the body panels fall off. Then I'm gonna duct tape those on and drive some more.

I really LIKE-HATE my truck, the stupid front end with the knocking and weaving annoys the living crap out of me but I still enjoy it. To be honest, the best part of my day is the 70 mile roundtrip commute to and from work in rush hour traffic.

No TV's, bickering kids, demanding wife, pushy co-workers...nada, nothing, just the Cummins to listen to. To be perfectly honest, I don't even listen to the radio or cd much anymore.

I hope the HATE part fades as I throw every part known to mankind at the front end. I've installed Moog balljoints and Lukes Links on the tierods and track bar. This week I may be able to order a DSS. A quicker ratio steering box, urethane control arm bushings and a new steering shaft are very likely. I may convert to the 03 trackbar as well, I think the design is much better...just takes mo' money

I LIKE it even more after I checked Edmunds price on an 04 4x2 ST with a 6sp and the Cummins...invoice 29,000.00 with no other options
