Any luck finding truck at auctions??

I am in the market for a 12v dodge, preferably in the 96-98 range. I would prefer a manual and regular cab. My friends father sells cars on the side to make a little extra cash. He told me that I could ride to any of the auctions with him in search of a truck. He mainly travels to the Omaha, Ne and Sioux Falls, SD auctions. Has anyone ever had any luck finding a truck using this approach??

Often those dealer auctions have a wide variety of vehicles. The CTD's are usually desireable enough that you probably won't see many, but if you are not in a hurry, why not give it a try?

Most of those auctions have websites that you can see their inventory. Maybe you would have to be, or know, a dealer to access them, but that may save you a little time traveling to auctions.

Give it a shot and let us know.

I really think its much better to try and buy used from the truck trader or newspaper...at least that way you might be able to find out about maintenance, accidents, what the truck was used for etc. When you buy from and auction, you have NO idea what you are getting.

Auctions usually offer items that dealers do not waht to have come off their lot or that would cost too much to put into reasonable shape.

thanks guys, i agree with everything that was said. Auctions are risky business. I really don't like buying something without having a vehicle history report.

I see quite a number of Rams in the auctions in the south. Especially at Atlanta. I am not a dealer, cannot bid on them. The second gens are showing up in numbers now.

I work ay an auction in central Florida, and any diesel truck, regardless of condition, is sold very quickly. They are at a premium! BIG MIKE :

I bought mine on eBay (on-line auction), of all places.

I looked for a used one in my area for about 2 years (on and off) and could not find one in my price range. I got a really good deal and love the truck.

I bought mine from a wholesale car dealer, it was what he used to carry other vehicles to and from the auctions. Since he sold me his, he has been having a tough time finding another one, not to mention he is driving a chevy gas burner till he gets a new CTD and is NOT A HAPPY CAMPER....

Both of mine came by way of ebay. On the 1st one I offered a bunch less than reserve and after no other bids he began to see where I and Kelly blue book were coming from. It also helped that the bank was only a couple days away from taking the truck..........
The second was a different way. I found the truck on ebay with a very minimal description. I started to ask questions and was interested but was going to wait to near the end to bid. About 8 hours before the end and still showing "reserve not met" I and everyone who had asked questions recieved an email stating how great the truck was and what the reserve was. My reply to him was I would give him the reserve, and pickup the truck with cashieers check in hand on Saturday, ( two days out) only if he ended the auction right then. He did, And I bought the 2000 for about 1500 less than my first bid was going to be. As luck would have it, the truck had a new vp44 in it but that one died and now I have spent the 1500 on another vp. Seems no one wants to take up a warranty fight when ownership has changed beyond the Dodge warranty period.
