Another Backspacing Question
Another Backspacing Question
I have 2 1996 2500 4x4's
I have stock chrome wheels on one truck and a set of eagle alloy's 16x10's on the other truck.
I hate the offset on the one with the alloys on it.
They stick out so far that I can't keep the truck clean.
The factory wheel backspace is ok.
The factory is 4.75.
I think 4.5 would work on 8" wheels.
Or do I need to go with more backspacing to compensate for the 8" wheel versus the factory 6.5?
Say 5.5??
Cornfusin' LOL
I like the look of the tires on the 16x10's but not so much I HAVE to keep it that way.
Is 5.5 the max we can run on these trucks.
If I'm thinking right I'd have to run 6.5" of backspacing to get them to stay where they should be.
But isn't that too much on a 1996? Will suspension pieces rub the wheels?
Thanks, KO

my 17x10 wheels run a +10 offset, so that equals 5.875" backspace. I am clear on my brakes and Thuren crossover steering and my 37s don't rub at all. I don't wheel the truck, so I can't tell you how it will act under a lot of articulation.

I also ran some Weld 17x8 wheels (with BFG 37x12.50 mudders) that were a +3 offset (4.625" BS) and they stuck out about the same. I always compare where the center of the tire is on any wheel application. the 17x10 wheels put the center of the tires ~1/4" further in to the wheelwell (+3 offset vs +10 offest). Because of the wider tire and wider wheel combo it sticks out abou the same, but I like the way the Toyos fit under the truck without looking like dually outer wheels hanging off the edge of the drums! to each his own...

Galen, do you have any pics? I have a 4.5" Skyjacker kit ready to go in and I'm wheel shopping.
I would like to see the clearance at it's closest point to the bumper/ rear wheel wells and possibly how much clearance flexed up. Say on a jack in the corner.
Got pics??

OK, so it took a couple hours longer than I thought, but I added a few pics to my member photos. I didn't get a chance to articulate the suspension, but hopefully this weekend... Had to get the enclosed trailer home and empty to move my son and his girlfriend back home after her college graduation.
