AC water on floorboard

I Have a 1997 3500 dodge and since the weather has started heating up and I have been using the AC the floorboard on the Pass side is soaked. This happens even if there is no rain so I figure it must be the AC drain that is plugged. I have crawled all over and under the truck the last few days and cannot find the drain. Where is it and what is the easiest way to clean it?

Thanks Kerry

Small black pipe (about 1/2 inch inside dia) that just sticks through the firewall on the passenger side. You get to it from under the hood. Dodge used to use a piece of rubber that fit over it and turned 90 deg and the end was closed together. After period of no use the end stuck together. Yours should not have this on but someone may have installed one. They keep mice out.

Kerry: My 98 had that same problem. Turns out the drain hose just fell off somewhere along the road. The drain pipe is just a stub (about 1" long) sticking through the firewall. Without the drain hose connected, the a/c water runs back along the pipe, back into the cab, and drains on the passenger side floor. Go under the truck on the passenger side on the firewall and you will find the drain stub. Then go to NAPA. They have 90 degree bend hose that will take care of the problem for you.

I may be wrong but I don't think Dodge is still using the 90 deg rubber on the end of the drain pipe as they stuck together and cause the back up.

You could be right but you mentioned that the end was pinched together, I believe BBWD was talking about just a 90 with a tube, no flattened end.
I would think that if just the stub was sticking through the firewall, the air flow arounbd the engine would push the drain water back into the pipe, causing the problem. I was getting the same problem and fixed it by dumb luck by attaching a longer drain tube.

hello everyone,
i dont know if this will work but it should, i work for a chrysler dealer and they had a tsb out for the caravans for the problem of the ac drain water running back the pipe into the van, what they have you do is slide an oring over the pipe and slide it back to the end of the slot(the vans have a slot on the bottom) i havent looked at my trucks to see if it has a slot or not.
but the idea of the oring is for the water to drip down off of it instead of running back the pipe and it does work on the vans.

Thanks everybody I found the drain and cleaned it out and for the first time I am seeing some water drain out under the truck. The carpet still seems to be getting wet so I will try the 90 degree rubber tube also.

Be sure to pull up the carpet to let it dry real well. There`s a lot of padding & stuff under it. If ya don`t get it dry it`ll start to mildew & stink. Don`t ask me how I know.

In addition to the pipe I added to caulk the area around the drain with silicone sealer. What a PITA!!!!! The gasket is foam and when it breaks down it acts like a sponge. I hade my interior out 5 times before I figured it out and got it sealed.

Thanks everyone I finally attached the 90 hose I found at a NAPA store it works great. The the part number is NAPA # 7447. It is not for a Dodge truck it is a cooling hose of some sort for a ford. However it fits perfect and looks like a factory installation.

Thanks Again for the help
