The lights have been on in my truck for about two years now or more and everything still works. If there is a wire running along the front brake hose to near the calipers, you have ABS all around. I haven't bothered to fix it because I hate ABS more than the lights being on. One of these days, I'll get a new sensor.

Man, ABS is the best thing since sliced bread, if you let it do it's magic. Although my truck doesn't have it, neither one, by BMW does and it has saved my butt more than once. Being able to slam on the brakes as hard as you need to, and still maintain control of the vehicle, that's EXCELLENT!

I'd convert both of mine to 4-wheel ABS if I could.

Mine does that when it's really cold out....like -15*F or less. The light goes out once the inside of the truck warms up

It won't hurt anything except you won't have ABS, just regular braking.

When you get the new sensor in you can just unhook the batteries for 10-20 minutes and the computer should reset itself.

i'm glad my truck is RWAL but the abs light and brake light have been on for about a year now with no ill results..... on the abs deal..... abs is the reason i ended up in a ditch with my expedition with an empty car trailer behind it..... i could threshold brake better than that abs did..... petal went to the floor i heard the abs pump kick on and the truck didn't feel like it was slowing down any...... 180* later and a jacknifed trailer and i was being pulled out of the ditch by a chevy.... oh well that's why i got a real truck to tow with....

where to buy speed sensor?

I have this same problem, abs and brake light on. Brake place said they thought it was the rear speed sensor and wanted a $100 to replace it. I passed thinking I could buy it from an autoparts store. But to my surprise the 3 different autoparts stores I contacted dont even list the sensor! How can I replace it if I can't buy it? Is this a dealer only item? I was hoping to save a couple bucks and replace it myself, but now I dont know. Where have you guys purchased yours?? Thanks

It's a dealer only item. They run about $35.

Grounding

I had this same problem on mine and found it to be the ground wires coming off of the ABS module were loose at there connection points on the rear frame/front left fender. Once these were sanded and tightend down-----PROBLEM FIXED!!!!! Always check the source first before replacing parts!!!!!!

Thanks guys. I'll check the ground then swap the sensor. Called dealer, said it would be $40. I can live with that. Usually when I hear "dealer only part", I hear $$$.

Problem solved

Thanks everyone for their input. I installed the speed sensor today and not only did the speedometer start working but both the ABS and Parking brake lights both went out. Didn't sound like they were supposed to but they did, much to my surprise.
