ABS and Park Brake lights on

HI all.

Had a problem develop the other day when the missus was driving home from work. The ABS, parking light, and seatbelt light came on and stayed on and the speedometer did not work. The next day the seatbelt light went out and the speedometer started working intermitantly. So that is how it stands ABS and parking brake lights on and the speedometer working imtermitantly. Otherwise the truck runs great. Was wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar to this?

Thanks in advance for any info on this problem

John

I would check the rear wheel speed sensor for the ABS. Seems to be most peoples problems when the ABS and brake light come on.

Thanks Rattlerattle I'll see if I can locate the sensor and find out how to test it.

Sounds like speed sensor on the rear axle. I have also had a speed sensor quit. Lost the speedo, cruise control and abs light came on all at once. It was about $30 and an easy fix.

You may find out that one of the front wheel sensors for the ABS is open like mine.

My old roommate has that problem. His ABS light came on when one of his hubs failed and now we can't get it to go off. We've tried clearing them with a scanner, unplugging the batteries, unplugging fuses, unplugging the ABS module and plugging it back in, nothing works. His speedo and everything works though. Just those darn lights are on. Didn't even think about the speed sensor.

When my speed sensor went out, the lights stayed on, but the speedo was intermittent.

Thanks everyone for the info.

I have purchased the speed sensor but haven't had the chance to plunk the darn thing in. Will get at it next week.

In reply to one of the posters.......I don't think that I have 4 wheel ABS brakes as I can't spot any sensors on the front axle.

I was looking through the repair manual the other day and read that on some of the onboard control modules if a malfuntion is rectified and the vehicle restarts something like 50 times without seeing that malfunction it will reset itself. So assuming that the speed sensor is the problem I'm crossing my fingers that the dashlights will eventually reset.

Thanks again everyone

John

If the speed sensor doesn't help his truck, check for a bad stoplight switch.

I think yours is a bad speed sensor.

Are there any problems if you do not change the sensor right away?? My lights went on over the weekend and I do not know how long it will take till I have time to replace the sensor....

My brake lights don't stay on, but I have had my seatbelt light come on and stay on. Its every so often though.
