if it comes on and stays on before you start driving, its more than likely your rear wheel abs sensor. it sits on top of the differential and its about $45 from the dealer. it takes about 10minutes to swap it out.

Also a brake line leak will cause this.

lift up on the brake pedal with your toe, if the light goes out replace your brake light switch. What I found after I replaced the switch there is a small amount of play in the switch where it twist into the bracket, not so much that the brake lights come on but enought that the computer senses that the brake pedal is being applied

Do a topic search. There is a ton of info about this, and although the three suggestions above are correct and good, there are more culprits. On mine, it was a leaking vacuum line. Start with the simple, cheap stuff, and work your way through the system.
Most 2nd gen trucks have had this problem- it is very common.

I had this problem with my 95 and found what was wrong. I first tested for vacuum and then checked the wire from the plug under the dash to where it connects under the drivers fender by the cab support. I tested there for a short and then where that wire connects to the wire that goes to the sensor on top of the rear end. ( on inside of frame behind fuel tank That wire had a short and was my problem. A new harness was ordered from the dealer. I now have day time running lights and no lite abs or park brake lite on. Thanks Guys for showing me the way to repair this pain. Thanks Don T

Check the wheel speed sensor wiring or the sensor itself, maybe the sensor went bad.

If you have issues with your speedo it's the RW sensor. If not it's the brake pedal switch. I had both go and the switch took me about 6 months to trace. The switch is cheap but be sure to read the instructions on instalation. It's self adjusting. You mount the switch then let the plunger spring out. If you release the plunger before installing it it will be too long and never be adjusted right.

Well I think I have it fixed and will know for sure in 1 hr as the local Dodge dealer just called to say my part is in. The new abs cable from the frame to the rear end is in and I will install it this am. If you have a problem with abs and park light and no day time running lights then you will have to check all the wires and find the short like I did. The reason day time running lights don`t work now is because when you put on the park brake in park you will disable the day time lights, I hope this make sense to you. and the park brake and abs are on the same circuit , so an abs problem will affect other things like day time running lights. I will post if I have found this to repair my problem. Thanks Don T
