98 Body Type

My 98 12valve

Confused about engine/body type

My engine pretty much like a 94-97, correct?

But the body is like a 98-2001?
(dash, mirrors, etc)

get confused about compatible body parts

appreciate your reply to this silly question

You could have a club cab-two doors/backseat, or a quad cab/two doors and two suicide doors for the rear seat. The engine could be a 12 valve or a 24 valve from this year. If its a 12 valve it could be one of a few different 12 valves from the past. If it is a 12 valve, quad cab, shortbox 4X4 it is considered one of the most valuable and desired of the 2nd gens. I would suggest getting the CPL (control parts list number) from it and looking it up in the tech section. I do not where this is on a 12 valve. Maybe someone will help. Kurt

Its a 98 ext cab with the suicide doors, 12valve 5speed shortbed (2500)

yes it is my grail truck and I looked hard to find it.

My confusion is,
since it was a new body style from the 97's,

do I consider the body type 98-2001?

And the engine and drive train I think are still the
basically the 94-97 type
(I know there are differences but basically its still a 12valve)

I get confused when I'm shopping for mirrors, interior stuff...
about which years my body type matches...

Your truck is just like everyother 98-02 interior wise. Exterior, 94-02 will be the same. Engine is the same as the 94-97 12v, but the tranny will likely have the better top cover like the 24v trucks.

You do have the coveted truck a 98.0 with quad cab. I have the least coveted truck - 98.5 club cab! Enjoy not replacing injection pumps. Take care of your KDP and enjoy.

Atleast you have the CTD. You could have a 5.9 gasser instead!

My '98 12v dash is slightly different than the dash on my old '01 24V. The 98 still has the pull-type headlight switch, where the '01 had a **** that rotates, pull it for fog lights. The fog light switch on my '98 is a button right next to the pass. side airbag disable switch. This area was an empty cubbie on the 01, I don't think you couldnt disable the airbag. Above that, my 98 has an extra power outlet behind a little flip door. For the life of me, I can't remember what was but I'm pretty sure it wasnt a power outlet.

In my 01.5 the air bag disable switch was up where the power outlet is. Power outlet was down in the lower panel like cig lighter is.There is also 1 screw holding the dash trim on in my 98 that wasn't on the newer truck. Otherwise you listed all the differences that I've noticed.

BTW- the CPL number on the 12V engines are all on the drivers side of the timing gear case. (Usually pretty dirty from spilled oil when adding oil since that's directly above the plate)

Copy down all the info on that plate and keep it safe- you need that info for internal parts and the plates have been know to come off, especially when a KDP strikes and you need to replace the timing case.
