3rd Gen disc brakes on 2nd gen truck?

Love my truck; hate my brakes.

Has anybody done a brake transplant from a 3rd gen to a 2nd gen?

I heard that the 3rd gen trucks have larger discs up front - and 17" wheels as well as discs out back (which my '97 doesn't have).

Thanks,
Tackett

Try replacing the rear wheel cylinders with GMC 1 ton cylinders (Napa #4637337) first and see if your impression of stopping power changes. I guarantee it will.
For $12 each and an hour of your time it's one of the best modifications going. Don't tell the Napa guys what the part is or what it's going on or you will confuse them. Just a part number is enough. You can even order online by clicking here

The mod is described in more detail here-

This condition was addressed in a TSB from Dodge. They suggest using the Dodge 1T cylinders for trucks continually hauling at the max. I think they began using the larger cylinders for 2500 trucks in 1998.
