33" spare under bed?

I did a search and read one post that stated he "thought" 285/75/R16 was the biggest tire that would fit in the factory spare location. That tire size equates to 32.8" tire height by my calculations which is close enough to 33" for me.

Anybody willing to satisfy my curiosity about stuffing a 33" tire under there? I'm basically running without a spare right now since the 235/85 that's under there doesn't do me much good.

Thanks,
Russ

Re:33" spare under bed?

Im in the same situation.

However, I have stopped by a local iron works shop and they quoted me $150.00 to build a tire mount that will fit in the bed, lock down my spare, and fit in the existing holes left from the previous owners 5th wheel mount.

After seeing my nieghbor fit his spare tire under the truck (I believe them to be 33" size tires as well, but Im not certain).
The result was, it fit, but because the width of the tire, it hangs well below the trucks rear bumper.
I didnt care much for the looks of the end result, and I will have the local iron work company build one for me in the bed of the truck.

Rich.

Re:33" spare under bed?

I'm not planning on putting a 33x12.50 under there exactly because of your friends situation with the tire hanging down low. I'm hoping to find the narrowest tire possible just as long as it's 33" tall so it matches the others. I could easily build a mount in the bed for the cost of materials, either by building it myself or have a friend do it, but I really don't want to give up any of my bed space.

Russ

Re:33" spare under bed?

I have a 285/75R16 that fits in the stock under the bed location. The factory tail pipe fell off :'( I have a custom three inch exhaust that probably makes it easier to mount the spare?

Brian

Re:33" spare under bed?

I currently have a 285/75/16 in the stock spare tire location under the bed. I also still have the stock exhaust system on the truck. The tire itself is a Goodyear Wrangler RT/S. In order to fit this tire under there, you really have to get under the truck a few times while cranking the tire up so it will not bind on the tailpipe, frame rails. But it does fit.
Hope this helps,
Rich

Re:33" spare under bed?

Helps to have one that's almost worn out, but still safe. Losing some tread helps with the fit. I have a 285 underneath, and NAIL BENDER has a 305. Both of us have 4" exhaust. It's snug, but no problems so far.
