Re:No AC

The thermostat won't affect the ac at all. You need to check the pressure in your ac lines. If the pressure is okay then you need to check the compressor and it's wiring/fuses. etc.
Re:No AC

It's one of two things. Compressor clutch isn't engaging (listen for it) or you're crap out of R34 meaning you have a busted or cracked line somewhere.

Re:No AC

If your compressor clutch is not engaging (check this by watching the compressor while someone turns the a/c on and off) Then you will need to see if there is enough pressure to activate the low pressure switch. If you don't have gauges to check pressures then jump the switch our to see if the compressor will engage when you turn the a/c on. If the comp. will come on then you a) have a refrigerant leak and need to find and fix it or b)the low pressure saftey switch is faulty. There is also a high pressure saftey switch on these trucks also. The Low pressure switch is located on the accumalator which is located directly behind the factory air box. The high pressure switch is located on the hot gas (high pressure) line coming from the compressor. General rule is that the low pressure switch will not be faulty but that you have a refrigerant leak. Also you do not just want to add refrigerant 134-A to top the system off because it is a blended refrigerant and with diffrent refrigerant blends they
will evaporate at different rates.

Re:No AC

Take it somewhere and have it checked. I replaced the compressor in April of 2002. The bushing wore out and was leaking around it. The clutch was 1/4 off center. That was 650 bucks time they got the dryer in there and the pipe that has the filter in it before the dryer. Two and 1/2 months later the A/C would not work again. The evaporator was bad. Had it changed, 702 dollars. To Dam much money for a/c. Its working good now. Don't know how long that will be. Truck has 94k on it now. I have the evaporator. It had two small holes in the middle of grid. Can't see how that happens. My sons truck is a 96, no trouble with that system ever 210k on the truck.

I had the shop put some florescent dye in the R134 and ran it for awhile before we changed the evaporator. The Black light told the story of the evap. You could see the dye had leaked out the pee hole. Had a couple other places the shop took care of that was there fault from the compressor change out.

Hope you don't have this line of problems.

Dave
