Well school is coming to a close and I've got a couple trucks I'm going to look at. Here is my delima, let me know which one you would go with in my situation.

1. '99 4x4 196,000, auto, trucks in flawless condition, all highway miles back and fourth between LA and south Texas. Had the vp44 and lift pump replaced 2 years ago, truck just sits now but the guy starts it up and lets it run 3 times a week or so. He wants $8000

2. '02, auto 112,000 http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/cto/1164227181.html he said it has a little loose steering, and a couple of little dings on the doors. Replaced VP44 recently, 14,000

The second guy wants to trade my Jeep + cash but the first guy doesn't. Do you think the second one is just way to much for not even being a HO 6 spd. The first guy also said I could just take over the loan for the truck and finish paying it out. So, what would you guys do?

Offer 12500 for the 02 and let him make your decision. I would try to get the other on for 7000k second. Just my thoughts

Well the '99 is sweet, I just hope the bank will come through, getting your idenity stolen is no fun.

I was amazed how tight the steering on this truck with 189,000 miles was. The only obvious issue is a cracked windshield at the top, and leaking steering gear box out of the back of it, and some oil leak around the drain pan area, just build up all around the bottom of the pan. Everything else is tip top shape, I really really liked the truck, just hope the bank will give me the money.

I bought my 01' and when what I really wanted was a 98' 12 valve but the bank wouldn't finance any of the ones I found because they had over 100k on them, and if you find a 98' 12 valve with under 100k it will most likely cost more than blue book so they won't finance it for that reason. All in all, I like my 01' but I really wish I would have just saved some down money and got the 12 valve.
Also, earlier you said you wanted a manual, if that is what you want I wouldn't settle for an auto, because you'll always be wishing you got that manual, not to mention you will have to do some work to the auto to hold some mods, where as the manual will hold what the stock clutch will till you upgrade it.
As for if 4x4 or not, my suggestion would definitly be 4x4, especially around here where I am, you may pay a few thousand more for it in the beginning but you get that few thousand back when you sell it.

As long as I have faith in the auto (it not blowing up a few months after I buy it), then I don't have a problem with the auto tranny. I checked the tranny fluid on this truck and it didn't smell burnt and it was bright red.
