won't build boost and smokes black

My 2001.5 is giving me some grief. It will not build boost and it smokes black like a freight train. It never use to do this. I have the edge tuned to the milage setting. could this be injectors or my pump going south. It has 300k on it and I have never touched the injectors or the injector pump. Any info would be a great help. Thanks in advance Garry

time to look for a boost leak, try the intercooler fittings . boots for leaks/ loose fittinglooking at the least expensive areas first, but do get a look/ feel a tthe turbo itself, could have let go on ya, end play wobble, snapped..... dunno.

Another very simple thing that will cause low boost and high smoke is a clogged air filter.

Dirty air filter and a boost leak are good guesses! And with stock injectors at 300,000 miles your certainly not as fuel efficient as you could be.
I've seen some stock injectors in poor shape at 100,000 miles.

Bad injector pump usually means reduced fuel flow and less smoke.....so I would look elsewhere, to start.

Sounds like a siezed turbo to me, but a MASSIVE boost leak could do the same thing. I would say it's time to pull the air cleaner to inlet boot to inspect the condition of the impeller and make sure it spins freely. If not, it may be possible to unstick it, but it is possible/likely you will need a rebuild. Hot shutdowns can burn up oil in the turbo bearing and cause it to stick.

All intercooler boots are good and air filter was cleaned about two weeks ago. I took my truck out on the highway on the weekend and the truck was working fine a little black smoke and was building boost up to 22 pounds. I think my truck just had a bad day. Seems to be running fine now. I am going to price out new injectors I thinks it is time for some. Thanks for all your help Garry
