Will my new Holley Black work with a dead LP?

I installed a new Holley 15 minutes ago and just unplugged the old LP . How come I still can't get any fuel pressure? Is the stock pump preventing fuel from getting past it?

You need to bypass the stock LP. Just get a fitting (Vulcan and Genos carry them) that allow you to connect the fuel hose directly to the inlet port on the fuel filter. The non-running stock LP will be a significant restriction in the flow path. I

Where did you mount the Holley? How is it plumbed into the system?

Directly after the tank. I used 3/8" compression fittings into the Holley Black instead of using hose. That new pump really made a racket when I turned it on...

You really should either run the stock LP or bypass it. Like I said, it's a serious impediment to fuel flow.

mine will not flow thru the stock pump. make a bypass witha small ball valve to loop around it if need be or just temp bypass it. the noise will go away when the truck starts....inside mines quiet. my holley keeps killin the relays but thats minor compared to vp's

The best way to solve this problem is to run 3/8" fuel line directly from the Holley fuel pump directly to the stock fuel filter.

All that you will need is a straight 3/8:" barb/12 or 14mm metric fitting with the washer/seal. The orig. one will probably work.

You will be VERY happy to do it this way.

I'm running 1/2" line from my cut fuel line/Holley, directly to the stock fuel filter. No restrictions from the fuel line !!!!

i have a 50 amp relay left over from the Perimeter lighting deal, PM me if you want it.

FWIW, I would put 2 of the 30 Amp relays from Advance in Parallel, and just feed power thru both of them.

should work good.

so you bought a 3/8 inch hose fitting, and used that instead of the adapter plate on the side of the fuel filter?
or is your truck a newer truck with the lift tank in the pump?

so you did not have to buy the $50 adapter plate?

i did not realize that part threaded in, i thought the adapter plate was held in by mounting, and the part that stuck in, was just pushed in.

???

Hi,

I got most of my stuff from Vulcan Performance. They are excellent! I'm a little confused by your questions but will do my best to assist.

Regarding your question on the fitting on the fuel filter. It is a 12mm or 14mm threads on one side and 1/2" barbed on the other side from Vulcan Performance or Earl's Hoses. Please remember, I do use 3/8" fuel line where I cut the fuel line to attach my 3/8" hose. I forgot about that. This is the only place I'm using 3/8" hose.

You can just purchase the 3/8" barbed fitting on one side and the 12mm or 14mm on the other side. Keep your washer/sealer when you pull of the stock fitting. The fitting screws directly into the stock fuel filter. Earl's Steel braided lines company does sell the fitting that goes into the stock fuel filter and so does Vulcan Performance. I'm using fittings from both companies!!!

I don't use an "adapter plate" that you are referencing. I'm not sure what you are refering to. Does this mate on the stock fuel filter?

Give more details and I'll try to assist. My truck is a 2001.5 Short-Bed. My truck came with the lift pump on the side of the engine. The local Dodge dealer upgraded to the in-tank pump (retro kit). Since they were paying for it, I decided to go with it but I'll be dropping my tank soon to remove the "retro kit" and install my Vulcan Performance - Draw Straw I & Draw Straw II.

Thx.

Unplug the factory line from the factory LP inlet. Cut the end off and get a 3/8 double barb fitting to put in that line from the tank and get a piece of 3/8 hose and run it to the FF inlet. When you take the line off the FF inlet, you will see that while not exactly designed this way, you can put a hose over it and hose clamp it down to make everything work as it should.
