Wierd clutch problem.
I have some wierd clutch symptoms.
Sometimes clutch is quite grabby on the take off, in 1'st or 2'nd.
But tranny shifts smooth as silk.
But.....
other times truck is difficult to get into 1'st 2n'd or reverse, but clutch engages smooth as silk.
Shut engine off, tranny shifts great.
What gives???
When I bought the truck 4,000 miles ago, I had dealer remove tranny and replace third gear syncros and input bearing. I'm worried that they have reinstalled something incorrectly and is causing the aforementioned symptoms.
Any ideas??

Might be the pilot bearing starting to seize. The pilot will seize so tight that you cannot get the clutch to release. Another thing that can happen to the clutch if it is stock is that the center portion may be breaking up. They are not too strong.

Haulin I just had the center break out of mine. Going down the road and it was like it jumped out of gear. The only thing I could think of was the e-brake causing pressure under braking?

No it is just a weak design. The clutch is a LUK clutch. The LUK Pro Gold is considerably stronger in the center. I had real good luck with the Pro gold hauling, but then went to the six speed and SBC. The early pilot bearing are junk the newer ones are better.

Haulin, I have the 3.54 gear too and pull heavy loads, if you had it to do over would you go with the 4.10? I think it would put me in the rpm range I need for highway cruising. What do you think?

Tool, I've had the same problem as you. It got worse and worse, then started making a grind squeal type of noise when the clutch was pushed in. I'm having both the pilot and and throw out bearing replaced. I hope that is all that's wrong. I will find out today!
