Wierd Electrical Problem

Hey guys, this is my first time posting a thread but I have a big problem with my electrical system. First of all, my reverse lights will not turn off. Even if the key is not in. Even if it is not in reverse. And when it is in reverse, without the key in ignition, the blower moter comes on and the lights for the power windows and locks come on also. Not real sure what the problem is. Maybe someone does. I have a 2001 3/4 ton 2wd 5.9L CTD. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome to DTR

I'm thinking your truck is haunted. Better call an exrocist.

Any ideas guys? I don't have a clue!

Are you sure it's not a Chevy?

Check your trailer connector and wiring for a short. I beleve the center connector is for the backup lights.. If that is shorted to the 12 volt wire the backup lights will stay on and you will have power to other run circuits when in reverse.

Try tilting the steering wheel see if the problem changes or goes away. If you have a auto look for any place the shifter could be rubbing on wires as it moves. Had a problem with my 04 blinkers. Wires rubbing in the column just from the tilt caused weird things to happen.

Trailer connector would be the best place to check, also behind the connector to make sure you don't have corrosion built up on the back of the plug. Pull fuse 7 and see if you still have backup lights. If so, you've got a short somewhere between the switch and the lights. It's going to be a purple wire with a black tracer along the driver's frame rail.

If you put power to the back-up light circuit back there (or elsewhere along the harness), when you put the truck in reverse and close the back-up light switch, you'll backfeed power through the fuse block to the other devices on the same power supply (marked in the FSM as RUN A22)

Sounds like some good advice. Something else to check is to remove the kick panel trim on both sides (the plastic panel under the dash, on both side walls of the cab.) There are some main grounds there for the dash wiring. Have a look and see if those grounds are tight and clean.

Could be your in key cylinder. Its easy to check. Trailer wiring-> power feed an acc in the truck or smashed against each other some where. Have you had the truck since new, any work done as of recent? you can pull the dash and check the column wire for the right power at the right position on the key cylinder. heres the colors and what they do when---->
