Why would my truck sputter?

About 4 times while mild accelration and turning my truck has died for a split second. It seems to almost quit rinning altogether but by the time it happens its over.I can't get it to do it on purpose but all three times I have been turning left and accelerating mildly(maybe coincidence).I have had the truck for 2 months and its only happened 4 times, all in the last three weeks. The truck has 66,000 miles.

Re:Why would my truck sputter?

How much fuel was in the tank each time this happened?

It was never low.Maybe 1/2 to 3/4 tank,but I didn't really notice.Today it had 3/4 when it happened.

Have you checked your fuel psi? This may be an indication that your LP may be getting weak.

No I don't have anything to check the pressure with. But my mileage is still around 20-21 mpg.I thought your mileage went down with a bad lift pump.

Re:Why would my truck sputter?

LP would be highly suspect. These trucks have been known to run for a long time on DEAD lift pumps. Not a good idea, because next will be the VP-44 If that goes, you will know it, to the dismay of your wallet! a fuel pressure check is cheap insurance. Several places sell test gauges. One place I know has them is Source Automotive

If you don't find it on the web site, call the toll free number and ask for Rip.

You can get a temp manual gauge and hook it up to the srader valve on your VP44. Check out the Briar Hopper setup on www.Blackmountaindiesel.com. I check mine every oil change. At least until I get a full gauge setup.
