Exclamation white exhaust smoke

So the last few days when I have started up my truck I have noticed a puff of white smoke. Didn't really worry about it until today when I was driving and it felt like it had less power I did a search and found fingers pointing at the vp44 but according to the dealer records it was replaced less than 20K ago. Any other possibilities.

Have you checked for codes? Codes are red in theodometer window, Turn the ignition key on-off-on-off-on, don't start the engine. It check the PCM and then the ECM. The code don't stay displayed long so have to watch the display.
Post what you get, and someone will have a answer, or the tech faq on here.

I checked the codes and it gave a 1694 which has been on there since I bought the truck. I think it has something to do with a boost sensor.

My 99 did the same thing and also cut out really bad if I stomped the pedal in park or neutral.

After I replaced a turbo boost hose/elbow, and replaced the map sensor it works just fine. No white smoke.

I think the boost hose is what fixed the white smoke and cutting out problem. (It def had a hole in it)
It very well could have been the map sensor. But I could see how the computer could lean out the fuel mixture to match the low boost caused from the hole, and then as the boost increased you would get white smoke.

All I know is that one or the other fixed the problem. When the map sensor finally died, the truck wouldn't pull itself 30 miles and hour down the road.

Replace those two items first. Never can hurt to have new parts of that sort on a truck especially if its a 98.5 - 02.
