what's it mean when this happens????

I've known for a while now that I should probably put a new clutch in the truck... so that's my best guess... but I've noticed lately that if I take my left foot and hook it under the clutch pedal and pull up, that I have about 2" of free travel... (like on a big rig)... Without doing that the pedal just rests where it stops (like normal)... The operation of the pedal and clutch seem to be working like they should, but that doesn't seem normal to me.... Probably just time to call South Bend??

Yeah, probably call Peter and see what he says. He'll be able to tell you in about 5 seconds what is going on just by your description.

I've never looked under the dash a whole lot, do the clutch pedals on our trucks have a return spring? maybe thats broke.

Mine does the same thing, but the clutch is fairly new, and there are no other problems.

I beleive it's the pressure plate springs that force the pedal back up through the system. Sounds like a weak plate.

The hydraulic clutch system is not serviceable (the hydraulic part) and is replaced as a unit I don't think it's that expensive though.

The upgraded hydraulics from Southbend are supposed to be the way to go if you have to replace them anyway.

I replaced the hydraulics w/ mopar unit in 2004. You get slave cyl. and reservoir and everything all pre-bled, just couples together....

I think once I get a nice day I'm gonna look the entire clutch plumbing and etc... over and see if I can find anything wrong... Is the clutch safety switch supposed to slide on the clutch pedal linkage?? I was looking at that the other day and it slides around quite a bit... I guess it would have to be able to slide....
