what ya think?

greetings all,
last wed. got in my truck, about 25 degrees out, didnt want to start. when it did it had alot of white smoke. took off in it and barely had any pedal but had plenty of white smoke. about a mile down the road it kicked in and ran fine but i knew something was wrong so i took it home and checked the lift pump. all the pump would do is sputter so i changed it and filter, and has run fine ever since. it never lit up the engine light, but went ahead and hooked up the obd 2 and came up with the imfamous po216 code. no companion code, just the one. erased it and it has'nt came back up. we all know what the code means, my question is, can the lift pump somehow make the vp throw the code when it goes completly out, and can this code possibly be an old code from before my buying it? like i said, it has no problems at all now. what do you all think?
thanks, dave.

I'd take it into the dealer before your warranty runs out and have them document it in case it fails later on down the road.

hey bb,
ya, i wish i could, but its over the 5 year mark so i guess i'll have to deal with it myself. i bought the truck in 2001 with 52000 already on it and figured the code might have been an old code left in it when i got it. if it does'nt give me any trouble or throw another code in a couple of months i guess mabey i lucked out.
thanks, dave.

I would take it in anyway and say that you have under 100k and the worst they can say is no. Might be a way to save $1400 for a new IP.

well, checked with dodge today about the warranty. gave me that : its a tough life: look and asured me that the 5 years are long gone. oh well, if it goes out that will just give me an excuse to put in some bigger injectors and some other goodies. after all, we all know the stock injectors goes bad when a pump goes out.

thanks, dave
