what next...??need some help

so 2 weeks after a new vp, new lp, and now the starter is burning up fuses and the trucks not starting even after starting fine this morning.
then when i went to start back up after lunch, nothing but multiple blown fuses after 3 tries.

so i bypassed the fuse box and wired up starter direct and it works.
what is causing the amp spike? could starter and contacts be worn just enough to not work and cause things to burn up finally?

any known weak link in this system as most everything on these rigs?

180,000 on the ticker, i will assume the original starter but cant be sure.

i did burn up a few fuses when priming the fuel system a few weeks ago after having some troubles and getting things a little too hot with the starter.

what else am i missing???
i know about the park neutrel swith or whatever that is and i need to get that checked out as well. vehicle is now at wally mart parking lot 50 miles away... arrrrrgggghhhhhh

you probably have something shorting out the wire(s) and thus blowing fuses. If your batts are good, connections are clean and tight your starter should spin w/no problem. If not, then it's the starter contacts. You can easily repair/replace them w/heavy duty contacts.

Blown fuse = resistance or direct short to ground. The 01 wiring diagram is at pdftown. Perhaps starting circuit is the same. Have you checked the starter & solenoid itself? I hate working in the cold.

Hey MeanGrn the same thing happened to me. Go to start the truck and it would blow a fuse, not all the time but got worse & worse, turned out the contacts in the starter contacts were shot. search E-bay and found heavier replacements fairly cheap. problem solved! Good luck!!

yea, same thing here, i have gone to fosters and loked at their rebuild and new starter with heavy contacts, what would any of you do at this point?, i dont have a good auto electric place where i live so i think i have to buy this new rig(almost $400), i can get a remaned from napa for less that $200 but i can assume it is not a denso unit... which i will also assume we want and not some china, mexico junk...

Meangrn I would pull out the starter and check the contacts. It's really simple to check, I got my oversize contacts from LarryB's for around $20, only took a couple day's to get thru regular mail. The starters from the stores are said to be cheap and not hold up well.

You said you heated it up trying to prime the system. You should only crant for 10 seconds with 30 off. You could well have crispied the starter.

Mine has 131k and after the new contacts works great. When it doesn't blow a fuse, how does it sound? strong? turn over the motor with no problem?
