Weird transmisison problem

I have an 01 Quad cab 4x4 dually with the Cummins and auto trans. Truck has around 150k and has ran and drove fine until 2 days ago.

I drive about 25 miles one way to work and in the morning it was fine. After work I get in it and start it and the first thing I see is the overhead console temp and direction are not lit up but it has ccd. I back up and when I start forward it acts like the brakes are on and it takes a lot of effort to get moving. One underway it seems fine and shifts normal. Drove a few miles and pulled over, shut the truck off and restart it and still the same.

I get a few miles from the house and there is a real steep hill where I have to stop to pull out into the road. Normally sitting on the hill the truck will roll back just a little like most autos do unless you give it some gas but yesterday it was like the parking brake was on. As soon as I would pull up a little and take my foot off the accelerator the truck stayed there and when I got ready to pull out the tach went up to about 2400 just to get out in the road. Once underway it was fine again. No slipping or weird noises under hard acceleration either.

I get to the house and I have one of those cheap orange actron code scanners so I plug it in and it shows no codes. Pull up my drive which is steep and the truck acts normal now so I go to the culdesac and come back and back in the drive. Now it is back to doing ther same.

Any ideas on what is going on here? Is the converter coming apart? solenoid issue or electrical? I figured if it was a solenoid or electrical it should have thrown a code but maybe my code checker only pulls engine codes?

The one weird thing about the overhead console showing the ccd was that I got about 2 miles form the house and it went back to reading normal and hasn't shown the ccd since.

Last night I started it back up cold and checked the trans fluid level in neutral and it is full but something else I noticed is that it is blowing the trans dipstick up from being seated about an inch. Can push it back down and it pops right back up.

I bought the truck with 100k on it and no known history of what had been done but it was a 1 owner truck. As mentioned above it now has 150k on it and I have not done anything with the trans.

The dipstick sticking out an inch is normal on these trucks.

Have you checked to see if maybe your rear or front brakes are indeed sticking on? My Master Cylinder failed on my 99 3500 and the front brakes would eventually stick because the master cylinder was not allowing the pressure off. Once I stopped moving, all I could smell was burning brakes. Jacked the front of the truck up, pumped the brake pedal and sure enough the front tires were locked.

Thanks for the info on the dipstick .On the brakes I thought about that when it first occured but it does not act like that in reverse and also if you are on a steep incline and the truck acts locked you can bump it into neutral and it will freely roll back.

Ok, came home and did the 3 key on and off and got 2 codes off the cluster , po 1757 and 1762 so looks like its time to replace the governor pressure sensor and solenoid and hope for the best.
