Which Transmisison Pan To Get?
I need a transmission pan because I cant check my fluid level because the dipstick hits the pan. I ordered a new dipstick and it was the same length so im going to assume its the pan that is wrong for the truck. You can see pictures of what im talking about here

Mine did the same thing. I just shoved it down to check until I got tired of that and ground off about a 1/4" from the tip. Stays down where it should now. Most of the diesel auto's I have been around do the same thing. Not sure why Chrysler did that.
I suspect that pan is from an A-727 application, which is what the new OD trannies are based on. Yes, Chrysler is still mating the CTD to 50s-era technology..
I'd go with a PML pan. The mag-hytecs are very nice, but the power coating is a mistake imo, as you want a pan to help get rid of heat, not hold it in!
Oh, and send that PML pan off to Swain Tech Coatings to have a Black Body Emitter coating applied. That will leave a black finish on the pan that actually increases its ability to radiate heat. These trucks need all the help they can get in tranny cooling!

Ha-- that's funny.
Heft a Mag-hytec or PML and your worries of cracking will go away.
You'd have to run over some re-bar and have it come up and punch a hole in it-- or try to!

...he heard that from me on his other post. I've had a couple of trucks towed in that had this issue. One was off road and the other was an RV'er that hit something on the 40. A quick sharp hit will break them where steel will bend. While I'm not sure of the brand of these pans (it was awile back) but it wouldn't really matter. Guess I should have taken picts..... I do have an aluminum oil pan off a 5.7 hemi that met a rock and the rock won. Shattered the bottom out of the pan.
....and as I stated in his other ramblings (well maybe that was MY ramblings) would I be afraid to run one? No
....and the pan in his pict is a 47re pan. I could run out to the garage and take a pict but I'm too lazy.....and I still say it isn't "bent" near the dipstick, but again, just what I see on a pict.
