Wanna buy my first diesel, I have questions

Looking at a 98 3500 xcab,4x4, 24v, AT, dual stacks. 150k miles, Ive never owned a diesel before. Dealer said he didnt know if injector pump had been replaced. What items should I look for before buying? Also my ultimate goal is lift it 3-4". What kind of price am I looking at to do this? Hard to do? etc. What websites can I buy kits from? Thanks.

If the injection pump has been replaced, there should be a sticker or tag on it that will say reman. For the lift there are a lot of options, just come down to personal choice and depth of pockets.

Honesty, why would you want a 3500 if you're going to lift it?

you don't have to lift it to run 22.5 truck wheels. Also i would make sure you get to start it when engine is cold, looking for ease of starting is it smoking and if so what color. this will help show signs of possible injector problems. another thing i would look at is does it have a gooseneck ball or show signs of having one or fifth plate installed and what shape is the trans in.

You can lift it 3" for around $600-$700. I'm piece'n together my 3" lift and will be around this price after its all said and done.

Check to see if the injection pump has been replaced and if the lift pump has been upgraded and/or relocated.

Have you driven the truck yet? Drive it long enough to get a feel for how long the tranny acts.

weak link is the transmission along with the torque converters, lift pump(need pressure gauge as soon as possible)then you have only so long on the VP injector pump but maintaining the fuel pressure and keeping the Vp cool and lubricated(some people as I do use TW3 2 stroke oil for lubricity) lift pump upgrade to air dog or fass and be done with lift pump issues.
