would there happen to be anybody in the vancouver, wa. / portland, or. area that wants to make a few dollars and do the seal kit for me? *********** wants $450 +parts.
i can get the kit from genos and pay someone to put it in.
i don't have $500 to throw at it right now. but can swing about $200.

 

get the kit from cummins ,$10.00 or less
it's so easy I'd do it just for fun..... really. three bolts and one hydraulic pressure and two return lines
if you decide to do it yourself don't try to remove the return lines from the power steering pump. just cut them right at the barbs on the pump....put it on the bench and disassemble

 

very simple to do, if you can get the pump off, you can replace the seal, its that easy, Cummins sells the kit its cheap and comes with instructions (at least mine did).

 

everybody is saying that it is sooo easy then why do they charge soo much to fix it.

its the same for a VP some shops charge so much because it sounds intimidating, when in fact it takes maybe 2hrs. If your not confident then I'm sure you can find someone to do it.
There is also another company out there(name excapes me) that even provides a video of the repair, including the seal driver, I think the price was around 60$ a search should find it

 

If you buy the seal kit from Cummins it will come with instruction. real east you really only need to make sure the seal gos in the right direction . on a scale of 1-10 its a 4-5 the only tools are a few metric wrenches and 2 large sockets to drive the seal in and out and a hammer

i did mine a few years ago, u dont have to cut any lines, just slide the ps pump off and let it hang there. put new seals in and align the tabs and slide the ps pump back onto the vacuum pump.

 

Same here, but I did mine a few months ago. Still, it was easy and no need to do anything to the ps pump but move it out of the way.

 

I installed the seal kit in mine yesterday while I was replacing my steering box. It was easy to pull the pump assembly from the bottom with everything out of the way. The instructions that come with the $9 kit from Cummins and a couple of sockets is all you need. I've heard some on here mention a $60 kit that comes with a DVD and tools needed to press the seals out. Save yourself some money and buy the $9 kit from Cummins.

 

Sometimes getting the vac & ps pumps lined back up can be a problem during which time you can mess up the new seal. Easy enough to pull both pumps as a unit - your choice.

 

5 or 6 years ago I bought the kit from fixinrams. Back then I could not find as much info about replacing the seal as there is on this site now. The fixin rams kit was highly reccomended to me then. I reccomend it today. If you need a confidence boost the video will help. I even made a call to them and got some help over the phone. Great guy. Great kit. I have put 100,000 mi on this seal and no leaks. No problem. Check out the site.
