Unhappy unresponsive throttle

Hello Board.

I'm afraid I already know the answer to this question........

However, I thought I would run the situation past the experts. I recently purchased my Dodge CTD, and really do love the truck. Shortly after purchasing the truck, I realised the urgency to install a FP gauge to monitor FP before the IP. Upon guage installation, I discovered my LP was not providing adequate FP to my IP. I replaced the LP, and installed a Vulcan kit hoping to help remedy the situation. FP ever since has been absolutely terrific..15psi idle, and nothing under 14 at WOT.

Just the other day, I started the truck.....and noticed a little more blue smoke out the pipe than usual. Didnt think much of it....(it's a diesel :-)) however, I upon taking off in the truck....I couldnt seem to get anymore than about 30 mph, or 1500rpms. Just nothing there at all...I'd put the peddle to the floor,....and nothing. Then, out of the blue,....a few seconds later, I have full throttle control again. This has happened several times now.......seemingly on warmer days.

I've also had a little bit of an intermittent miss at idle after the truck is warmed up......not sure if this is related or not.

I've checked the codes via the 3 key method multiple times.....and never had anything come up. (All I get is "P-done".)

I've also noticed that my Check Engine light must not be working.........it doesnt light up upon startup. Bulb bad?

Thanks for any help. My truck is 5K over warranty,.......and I really cant afford a new IP right now........so I'm rather down hearted.

Just an update.......

I called my local cummins dealer.

$2400 New IP
$350 Labor (4hrs)

$2750

I think I may be trying to accomplish this on my own if it is deemed necessary!

I know just from watching this board that I can find a pump for less than $2400. Cummins rep told me this was the only pump out there, and it was at a fixed price.

Have you tried resetting the APPS?

It's most likely the VP44 (run a search on "dead pedal"), but, as crobtex said, it doesn't cost anything to reset the APPS. Might as well give it a try!

And you're right - you can find an IP for substantially less than $2400!

I'm afraid a dead pedal means a dead (or dying) VP... - assuming the APPS checks out.... It is typical for the dead pedal syndrome to not throw a DTC.....Codes or no codes, the check engine light should light for the first 2.8 seconds as the PCM runs through the bulb check......if it does not, the most likely cause would be the bulb.......regardless, very few codes on these trucks actually set the check engine light.....why, I do not know.

I got my VP for $1200 from Hoesli Diesel. It takes awhile to get your $500 core back, but you get it back.

Thanks guys! I dont understand why my local cummins dealer was trying to jab me......... I would have expected that from my DODGE dealer...

I will certainly try the APPS procedure. Man I'd be happy if that solved it!

Thanks again.........I'm guessing I'll be shopping for an IP in the coming weeks.

Plan on trying the Apps tomorrow afternoon. Has anybody out there had the APPS reset, resolve a dead pedal issue?
