Turbo Problems
i have a buddy with a 99 2500 with around 140xxx miles on her and i went to take the silencer ring out the other day and and saw that it was caked in oil as well as the wheel and inside of the intake side of the charger, he had someone look at it, im not sure how much they know, but they said it had some decent shaft play to it. So i was wondering what may be the best option a rebuild kit, used stocker, or a new stocker (priced at 1200 by columbus diesel and 800 by dealer) the truck is bone stock so i bigger one isnt really an option. I told him just to call up Enterprise Engine since theyre about half hour away, but all of your input would be appreciated.
Should be able to pick up a decent used one in the neighbourhood of $300. Not sure how much a rebuild would actually cost, I guess could start phoning places and see what parts would cost.
If you are going to buy a new turbo you may as well look at the PDR HX35 or the Dodgezilla. Both are "Hybrid" turbos. On PDR's site they recommend their turbo for "stock to 350 hp". I would not spend $800 on a stocker when you could spend $650 for a upgrade. JM2CW. Phil
