truck shakes

I think my torque converter is going. When my truck is in overdrive and I step on go pedal the truck starts to shake. When I back out of the pedal it stops. If I turn the overdrive off it does not shake only if I really get in the pedal. I checked all the u joints and its is not them. What do you guys thinks. Should I get a new converter or get a whole new trans. My truck has 266000 kms on it. I have been saving my loonies and toonis for a while and I got 6 grand to spend on it. What should I go for. I'm no expert but I'd say it sounds more like your 4th gear than your TC, as far as I know the stock Transmission will lock the TC with OD off, just in 3rd gear instead of 4th, but like I said I'm no expert, but it seems most people either get a DTT or a Goerend (spelling error i know) and yes I know I have an ATS...I like it many people don't.

I phoned Nadp in Edmonton and he said he could build me a full race trans with converter for about 5400

Guessing you have 3.54 rear end and you in OD at low RPM.... with Juice on??
If so... it's not you tranny. It's a harmonic resonance (what I call it) that sets up when you have added fuel and low rpm. Your actually lugging the engine.
Mine does same thing.... not a body shake but a driveline shake... since adding Mach 6 injectors. I have to lock out OD below 60 with 315 tires. I usually do anyway, because truck runs much better between 1800-2000 rpm.
With your 285's you should not be in OD under 55 mpg...IMO. You can't hurt your engine at up to 2500 rpm (even running all day)!
And I find it does not affect mileage to lock out OD till higher speed.

How close is my guess?

Ok...missed the part about shaking under load, in third!
RPM's going up, with no increase in speed, is usually a slipping TC.

Good Luck !

On your other question... If the truck is a keeper, I'd do a full rebuild. You'll love it.

I'd compare prices with DTT...not far from you, I think?
