truck quit
Gary,
Call Midwest Fuel Injection outta Chicago and buy one of their VP's. I'm one of thousands of satisfied customers from this business. Yes, they even have a "hot rod" version if you'd like.
Here's a direct link to their site: http://www.mwfi.com/VP44.htm
Good luck !

230 code
I checked the codes with the new reader and came up with a P0230 Fuel Pump Primary Circuit Malfunction.
This is not one I remember seeing.
Any suggestions?
thanks...gary

lift pump
Because of a hard start issue, I have the pump wired to a run only circuit. I think this may be causing this code, I think I have to wire it back to the original running configuration, as this is a lift pump code....phal
Grrrrrrr
I loosened the injectors on the truck today, cranked it over a bit and it started right up.
I drove it around the neighboorhood trying to warm it up and it quit again.
This time I broke the injectors loose and could not get any fuel out of the three that I broke loose and it will not start. I definitley have fuel from lift pump as I pulled the banjo and it is squirting out.
I am not a happy guy....phal

yeah you will end up with a hard start condition running your lift pump like that. the computer cuts power to the lift pump when cranking as the vp's dont like full pressure when starting.
definately sounds like your vp may have thrown in the towel. They won't always throw a code when they die.
already rigged for hard start
I have already rigged it for a hot start. I have bypassed the wiring harness circuit and normally have it plugged into a
run only circuit in the cabin fusebox. At this time I am plugged into an
always on circuit in that same fuse box as I was just trying to get it to run.
And it did run, for about a mile.
The lift pump is running, I know I have fuel at the inlet of the VP.

vp is most likely your problem. had to replace the vp on mine due to a bad lift pump and it hadnt run more than a mile or so before it took out the vp with it. thay are a pretty delicate pump. dont miss my vp one bit
I think the system wants to turn on the fuel pumps for about 10 seconds and turn it off until the engine starts. I think you have to much pressure for it to start. I would did around a bit for others who have a setup similar to yours, but works before you buy an injection pump. If you feel like replacing the VP, standard tools plus a puller is required. There are tons of "how-to" guides on replacing the injection pump.
Hope your truck starts working right,
Joe
