transmission help!!

My trans the other day felt like it was starting to stutter. I only feel it slightly with any throttle input but it's there. It feels like going over a few pebbles every few seconds which I originally thought it was. After driving the same route to work every day (fairly smooth) I noticed that it ran smoother if I took my foot off the skinny pedal. Has anyone run into this? Is it a problem or am I loosing my mind!? Last time I had it serviced the tech said that it had an after market valve body (not sure of brand) and a BD pressureloc. The stock converter was replaced with another OEM at the time and I was wondering if maybe it was not compatible with the valve body. My next mod planned is a decen torque converter but it'll be some time before I get the funds. I plan on doing a filter/fluid change in the next few weeks and wonder if there's anything simple I can do to check or fix anything at the same time.

From: North Carolina or Kentucky. Take your pick
Make sure ATF+4 is used. Make sure the KD band is properlly adjusted.. A shudder in OD lockup under throttle is generally indication the converter is slipping. Can't hold the torque of modified engine at part throttle.
