Transfer Case

I'm replacing my transfer case as it is pretty much smoked........

Every parts supplier I call always asks if it is a 23 tooth or 29 tooth case. I'm really not sure....

How do I tell???

It's a NP 241 DLD

Thanks for any help.

I'm pretty sure they talking about the number of splines on the input shaft. I don't know which case has which splines though sorry.

I think 23 with the auto, but I am not sure. Call Quad 4X4 and give them the numbers off the x-fer case and he can tell you.

Thanks MCmopar........

why do you have so many tranny parts kicking around???

It's actually the spline count for the T-case INPUT...... (or NV4500 output I suppose)

Really frustrating that the local DC dealer parts department can't even tell me the difference

Oh well......

Every parts house, tranny shop and dealership I called asked me the same question but no one knew what the difference was!

OK, I went home and counted automatic transmission output shaft splines, and everyone of them are 23 spline. I have them from 1996-2005. No info on manuals sorry.

It's ok....... I allready answered my own question, all of the t-cases that fit NV4500's are 29 spline.....

The 23 spline cases must be for auto's I guess.

Pretty annoying when people ask you if it's 23 or 29 spline when you just told them it's for a manual transmission..

My favourite is the places I called to ask for a price on a t-case and they ask me if my vehicle is 4wd?????

WOW!!! What a dazzling display of intelligence some people have.

That is funny......... I guess I can sort of understand a kid jumping to that conclusion..... I have rebuilt lots of carbs on old snowmobiles from the 70's 440cc is a popular snowmobile displacement too, but please!!!!!

WHY WOULD I NEED A T-CASE FOR A 2WD TRUCK??????????

These weren't kids either! Grown people in tranny shops!
