Let's all laugh

I replaced my IP this weekend and in doing so made a huge bone-head move. While doing the IP I did an oil change and changed all 3 filters. So here's the bad move:

Before I put the injection pump all back together I replaced the fuel filter while the space was open. After that I replaced the air-filter cus it's easy. I figured, while on this filter change kick let's replace the oil filter too - and so I removed the old filter. Then I realized I didn't have my Amsoil with me (I was in a buddy's garage) and decided not to attach the new oil filter w/ bad oil on the gasket. So, I went back to finishing the IP. I get it all back together and decide to try and start it. I crack a couple lines, turn it over a couple times, and won't start yet. so I keep cranking it over. and over. and over. and then I hear a dripping noise. Crap! It's leaking diesel! I look under and no, not diesel. Oil all over the shop floor! This was a 4 foot long lake of oil, it was at least 1.5 gallons! It took 20 pounds of kitty litter to get all this up.

Dude. Nice. At least this crap doens't only happen to me! I feel much better now about hitting my left thumb with a hammer, breaking my desk chair and falling to the floor, and then rubbing a blister the size of Connecticut on my right thumb. This last week has been the *(&% s.

Yea, the frustration mobile is running again. Anyone care to bet on for how long?

I am a disaster around vehicles. Every boken bone w/ 1 exception has been around vehicles. I smashed one finger replacing an axle shaft on the trail while knocking the wheel hub out with a brake rotor. I smashed another finger moving a front axle. I broke my collar bone falling off a dirt bike. Rolled my ankle twice in one week working on cars. Good times.

I figure, though, it's not all bad if people can get a laugh out of it. And if enough people laugh then me going Exxon was a good thing.

Nope, but if you want a new motor it's a good place to start. I did kind of the same thing once, except I forgot to tighten the fuel filter lid when I set it on there.

Somewhere is is said that these diesels need to be flushed out occasionally with about 3 gallons of clean oil.....gets the soot and carbon out of the oil oan....and on the floor..

it also stops the passenger side of the engine and suspension from corroding. just consider it preventative maintenance.

I had a guy at work remove an oil pressure sender off of a Cat 3408, forgot about it and started the engine when it was cold. That thing has 80psi when cold and imagine what it looked like coming out of a 1/4 NPT hole.

Another guy was checking hyd pressures of a grove crane, forgot to put the cap on the test port and fired her up. 3550psi, 1/8" hole. shot for about 35'. good thing there was no one around..

Well, it wasn't with oil, but diesel. I just put my vulcan big line kit on and checked all the fittings, or thought I did, and fired her up. Once it got going I thought to my self, holy ** batman, I didn't tighten the line on the back of the filter housing that was spraying everywhere. I hit it with a wrench and wolla.....a leak at the back. I didn't tighten the hose off the lift pump going forward either! What a dufass. After this and mopping up about a gallon of fuel off the floor, I was done. Then I went to take a shower because I smelled like a oil refinery!
