Trans temps

What are the normal temp of your auto while driving, sitting in traffic in warm weather.
Mine seems to like 195*. It seems too hot to me.
When i did the temp probe install the check valve fitting on the heat exchanger fitting gualled. i put a compression fitting and did without a new check.
After i start the truck i have to let it idle for 30 sec or so before the line pressure builds and i can drive.

I have a Goerend valve body and torque converter so my temps run a little hotter than stock sitting in slow moving traffic.
I saw 220* last Friday in traffic, outside temps in the 90s.
Temps rapidly fell to 160* - 170* as soon as traffic started moving.

95* outside sitting in traffic the hottest I've seen is 170*. The hottest I've ever seen is 195* pulling out two pine stumps. I still have the stock pan.

That's about what mine is running, maybe 210 in stop/go traffic.

I saw 10 minutes of 280+ last weekend.
Outside temps upper 80's, 5 miles of 8% grade, 25-30mph max, very winding canyon road.
Couldn't get going fast enough for it to shift into 3rd and lock up,
or fast enough to get any air flow over the coolers.

As soon as I crested the hill and could go faster than 40 and lock it up, it cooled right down to 160-170

I need a tighter converter, and 2nd gear lockup.

Mine runs about the same,190-195* sitting in traffic. If I have to sit longer than a minute, like at a long light I throw it in neutral. It helps a little but not much.

Hey guys I have asked this question in the past and no one really steped up to give me an answer. "What is to hot" well from personal experince I can now tell you. when I first got my truck it always ran right around the 160 mark. Racing one night I did a power take off you know foot on brake while giving her some throttle and it started running 195 to 220 always. Took it to the dealer and was told that it was normal. 60,000 kms and 2 fluid changes later the tranny crapped out. had the tranny rebuilt (my cost) and it was still running at 195-220, changed out the cooler by the rad 190, changed out the oil to water cooler right back down to 160. darn thing was probably hooped from the power take off and should have been replaced. If I were you running around and seeing temps that high I would have it checked. Just my 2 cents or maybe I should say 3500.00 as thats what it cost me for the tranny.

You have a different transmission then the 2nd gens.
Might be better asked in the 3rd gen engine/drivetrain forum.

If you are runing without the check valve then you should put it in nuet. after starting it so it will fill the converter, In park it will fill very slowly, could cause damage.

mine is around 185 when im in stop and go traffic lately in the 90+ degrees weather... also when im on the higway im at 140ish....My temps use to be lower when i had the trans temp plumbed into the tranny lines in the front of the truck but when i drilled hole in tranny pan and welded in a nut so i could screw the sensor into the pan the temps are a little hotter...
